Grace Perverted

Certain individuals have slipped in among you who pervert the Grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord - Jude 4

God said grace can be perverted! Teachings on grace can go too far! Actually, any Bible truth can be perverted. I know, that as a pastor for over 30 years, preaching and teaching at least three times a week, I have had to watch out about going too far with any Bible subject.

According to Jude, if any teaching says that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are not for you, STOP LISTENING TO IT! Much of what Jesus taught and did was toward everyone, not just the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Saying these New Testament books have nothing for New Testament believers is one step forward towards what Jude was talking about, “Denying Jesus Christ our Lord”. Sure, a lot of what Jesus taught was for the people of His day, but much of what he taught was universal. Wouldn’t it be sad if Mark 11:23 and 24 as well as a ton of other scriptures in the gospels were not for us today?

Jude also describes some of the fruit of those who went too far with the grace message. Diversion, disrespect, murmuring, complaining, mocking, sensuality, speaking against leadership are all connected to perverted grace. Though the message of grace is amazing and wonderful, it can go too far. Read the whole book of Jude!
